MANILA — Ronnie “The Volcano” Alcano is now hailed as the country’s king of the rotation game after beating billiards living legend Efren “Bata” Reyes in the “Challenge of the Legends: The Maestro versus The Volcano” on Friday.
“I shot poorly today,” said Alcano after posting a 9-4 victory over Reyes in their race-to-nine match at the SM North Skydome in Quezon City.
“Masarap siyempre he called me ‘champ,’” the Volcano said of Reyes, who remained the country’s king of the rotation game before bowing to Alcano.
The “Volcano” immediately went down to business at the start of their match to post a 4-1 lead over his billiards idol.
Alcano remained ahead despite Reyes’ efforts to cut down the lead, 5-4.
The Magician seemed to lose steam in the latter racks as Alcano continued to advance to clinch the victory, 9-4.
The last time the two billiard greats clashed was in the 2006 World Pool Championship when Alcano eliminated Reyes in the Last 16 and proceeded to clinch the crown.
