kimshawThe Jacoby Custom Cues Mid American Ladies 9 Ball Tour’s Tennesse State Championships was held this past weekend  at Borderline Billiards.  The event drew in 22 players from around the region.  Notables such as Val Finnie, Betty Sessions, Dawn Fox, Kim Shaw and Katie Pagel just to name a few are participating in this weekend’s event.


The Draw took place on Saturday and the following players drew a bye in round one:  Teresa Gifford, Borana Andoni, Betty Sessions, Katie Pagel, Tina Hess, Julie Skripac, Val Finnie, Becky Todd, Buffy Jolie and Dana Aft. 


The players that did not draw a bye completed Round one as follows:  Nicole Keeney defeated Dawn Fox 7-2; Kim Shaw defeated Shelly Harrison 7-6; Lea Andrews defeated Rachel Byrket 7-6; Lisa Davids defeated Chelsea Hardwick 7-5; Janet Atwell defeated Marianne Merrill 7-3; Cristina De La Garza defeated Leslie Furr 7-4.


On the winners side of the chart play continued.  In Round two the following matches have been completed:  Nicole Keeney defeated Teresa Gifford 7-0; Kim Shaw defeated Borana Andoni 7-3; Betty Sessions defeated Lea Andrews 7-4; Tina Hess defeated Katie Pagel 7-5; Lisa Davids defeated Julie Skripac 7-3; Janet Atwell defeated Val Finnie 7-6; Becky Todd defeated Cristina De La Garza 7-6; Buffy Jolie defeated Dana Aft 7-4.


Once on the one loss side the following players were eliminated as play conitnued in Round three:  Fox defeated Aft 7-0;  Harrison defeated De La Garza 7-6; Finnie defeated Byrket 7-2;  Pagel defeated Hardwick 7-3;  Andrews defeated Merrill 7-1;  Andoni defeated Furr 7-1;  Skripac and Gifford both drew byes in Round three.


On the winners side in Round three Shaw defeated Keeney 7-6;  Hess defeated Sessions 7-6; Davids defeated Atwell 7-6; Jolie defeated Todd 7-4;


As play continued in Rounds four and five one the one loss side the:  In Round four Fox defeated Harrison 7-6; Finnie Defeated Skripac 7-3; Pagel defeated Andrews 7-2; Andoni defeated Gifford 7-5; In Round five Fox defeated Sessions 7-6; Pagel defeated Todd 7-3; Andoni defeated Atwell 7-3 and Keeney defeated Finnie 7-3. 


With the  completion of the above rounds the field narrowed down from it’s original 22 players to the Final eight players that would return on Sunday in with hopes of remaining in the tournament and making it to the finals.


Once  play resumed on Sunday more of the competitors would be knocked out of the tournament as Round six on the one loss side completed narrowing the field:  Keeney defeated Fox 7-3; Pagel defeated Andoni 7-4. 


In Round four on the Winner’s side Shaw would defeat Hess 7-1 and Davids Defeated Jolie 7-6, pitting Shaw against Davids whom she defeated 7-3  in Round five on the winners side in the Final for the Hot Seat.   Back on the one loss side  Keeney  would defeat Jolie 7-6 and Hess would send Pagel packing with a score of  7-4.

In the quarterfinals Keeney’s hotstreak would continue as she faced and defeated Hess 7-3 moving her into the semi finals where she would face Davids.  Keeney’s roll continued as she defeated Davids 7-1 setting her up to face Shaw in the Finals.


Shaw remained undefeated in the tournament by defeating Keeney 9-3 in the finals to win the tournament.
